I have been teaching and tutoring for many, many years. There is only one reason I do it, and that is because I love to see the light of understanding in a student's eyes. When you learn something, you are growing and you are adding something of value to the world. My only goal is to help you do that growing.

Sometimes we need to slow down. Sometimes we need to move on and not bore you when you understand it already. Sometimes it is good to repeat things over and over. Sometimes that is a terribly silly thing to do. All that matters is what the student needs in that moment. The beginning of being helpful to someone else's learning is for the teacher or tutor to pay attention to the person who is learning.

I have taught at universities for decades, teaching law, philosophy, basic writing skills, and advanced writing skills for lawyers, but one of the most satisfying things I have ever done is teach English in small group ane one-to-one lessons to persons living in China. I taught at English language schools in Guangzhou in addition to my full-time professorship at a university there, and I also worked with university students to help them master the more advanced English they needed to do the work in my college classes on law and philosophy.
