As a TESOL certified teacher, I believe that teaching should clearly address students’ needs and interests, that it should be engaging, motivating, and student-centered. In a typical lesson, I first introduce the concept, whether it’s grammar or conversation. I would then have my student practice this concept with a few engaging exercises. I teach like a facilitator and guide the student as we practice free communication exercises, (writing, speaking). We then review what we have just learned. I also enjoy drawing from my student’s knowledge and experience and applying real-life scenarios that would help the student use their English in different life situations they may encounter.
I am currently working part time as an ESL online teacher, once a week. My classes consist of one or several students, and lessons and content is provided. I teach two lessons at a time, and each lesson starts with a grammar point and then it goes on to some practice exercises in speaking, reading, writing and listening. The exercises are task-based, and they focus on a particular theme, like unexpected events, health, outdoor recreation, etc. Each course unit has a final quiz and special project that is due at the end.
