Hello! My name is Karen and I live the United States. I am a Native English speaker.
Thank you for considering my class. My teaching style is primarily conversational, so that each student can start speaking English from day one. As our lessons progress I will use a variety of ways to help you to become comfortable in both speaking and listening to English. Each student is unique when it comes to learning, therefore, I try to use whatever is best for each student. For example: Conversation, role-play, (TPR) Body and hand gestures, pictures, reading, videos etc. We will talk about subjects of interest to you. For example: family, friends, sports, games, shopping, music, books or travel.
While I offer constructive ways that you can improve, I also offer sincere commendation. Learning a second language can be challenging, so it is important to celebrate your successes. It will help your confidence to grow. A conversational style will help you to learn quickly and have fun while learning. We will practice together words that you find hard to pronounce. My goal is to help you gain confidence in speaking English to anyone on any topic. I am very patient, so do not worry about mistakes. Good grammar will come in time. This is an opportunity to learn. I look forward to seeing you in my class.
I have over 20 years in teaching English. I enjoy teaching both kids and adults. I have helped all levels of English language learning (beginner, intermediate and advance) students. Currently, I teach English as a Second Language to both kids and adults. I have learned that everyone has their own learning style. Many of my students learn best in a one-to-one setting which allows them to speak freely and without reservation, while others prefer a group setting to learn from others.
I have found group setting to be effective in helping students overcome the fear of speaking to natives. I used role-play to simulate narratives for activities of daily living. This is a great way to encourage dialogue and gain confidence in speaking English.
Seeing your peers also trying to learning English can be a great confidence booster, especially when you are speaking on topics of interest to you both. I am flexible in this way. My success in teaching English as a second language comes from being a good listener. I want to help my students reach their personal language goals.
