Hello, my name is Shermaine. I am from the beautiful island of Jamaica located in the Caribbean. Apart from my love for teaching and helping my students meet or exceed the academic goals, I am a curious person by nature; therefore, you can always find me venturing outside of my comfort zone. I am passionate about learning new things, cooking and solo travelling. I have travelled extensively to over 25 countries and have lived in 4 of those countries - Jamaica, India, South Africa, and Japan. I absolutely love meeting people from various cultures and discussing our similarities and embracing what makes each culture unique and interesting. I am a patient, understanding and caring person. I listen to my students and use their own interests to make the lessons more relatable and interesting. My lessons are well-prepared and mostly student-centered. I design and adapt materials that are both appropriate and challenging to my learners. Conversational topics we could enjoy together include travelling , cooking , sharing recipes and culture, and anything you would like to talk about.

I am a certified teacher/tutor with 14 years of teaching experience. I taught Accounting for 8 years in Jamaica and English for 6 years in Japan. I have a master's degree in Applied Linguistics and TESOL , a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education and Training, and a BSc. in Accounting and Psychology. My lessons are well-prepared and mostly student-centered. I design and adapt materials that are both appropriate and challenging to my learners. I listen to my students and use their own interests to make the lessons more relatable and interesting. Conversational topics we could enjoy together include solo travelling or travelling in general , cooking and sharing recipes and culture.
